Shark-Resistant Wetsuits Prove Effective in Scientific Testing

Shark researchers have disclosed that some specialized wetsuit fabrics designed to stop sharks from tearing off an arm or gutting you might actually be beneficial. As outlined in a study published in the journal Wildlife Research, the group examined how much four bite-resistant wetsuit fabrics—Aqua Armour, Shark Stop, ActionTX-S, and Brewster—could decrease harm and blood loss from great white and tiger shark bites. “Our study showed that bite-resistant materials incorporated into wetsuits can reduce damage from large white and tiger sharks (up to 3 metres) compared to standard neoprene wetsuit, even from moderate and severe bites,” Tom Clarke, a researcher

Al Gore’s AI System Now Monitors Deadly Soot Pollution Sources

Soon people will be able to rely on satellite systems and artificial intelligence to monitor hazardous soot pollution in their neighborhoods—and pinpoint its origins—in a manner not unlike tracking incoming storms under a plan by a nonprofit coalition led by former Vice President Al Gore. Gore, who co-founded Climate TRACE, which employs satellites to pinpoint sources of heat-trapping methane, on Wednesday broadened his platform to follow the origins and plumes of pollution from fine particles, commonly called soot, at a neighborhood level for 2,500 cities worldwide. Particle pollution kills millions globally each year—and tens of thousands in the United States—according
